My skills are applique, piecework, design, and quilting, with some embellishments tossed in too! I also can paint on fabrics, dye them, scan or work with digital images and print them to fabric. I have a Cricut Expressions machine using Design Studio that cuts fabric into shapes and letters. I have repaired quilts both antique and modern quilts either by hand or with machine. I also can do websites.
I rarely follow patterns, mostly improvise, and finish projects quickly.

Geologist, artist, gardener, scrapbooker, quilter. Always crossing back and forth from these experiences to create my art. Life is a continuous experience that flows like a river, with a strong current, pulling others along for awhile, and is a fun place to play! That artistic playful attitude is evident in my quilts, where each one is unique and has a story behind it. Some of my quilts were shown in these Quilt Shows: 2010 Niles Wildflower, Art, Garden and Quilt Show 2009 May Santa Clara Valley Quilt Association Show 2008 May Piecemakers Quilt Guild of Southern Alameda County Legacies of Love "Our Stories" 2008 December 13-14 Christmas Quilt Show Niles Congregational Church Other quilts were made for family and friends. A few are in private collections, made on commission and designed by Karen for that person. I've made memory quilts from photos, which are printed on fabric sheets and sewn. My graphic skills are used mostly for the designing and the painting skills are great for modifying quilts. Some of my first quilts to quilt on my 2009 Millennium longarm machine are shown on the Shop page. I have quilted so many now that I've lost track. At least I can say, the best part of owning this machine is that I never have to wait to get my quilts quilted, and I get them quilted the way I want them quilted. I use Facebook as a diary, and post most of my photos on that, look me up 'Karen Lynn Wheeler', and see what's new, as it is easier to update my Facebook pages than these. I will also post more Smileboxes and Utubes, so you can subscribe to my Channel on Utube and it will notify you when I post a new video.
Karen Lynn Wheeler's Facebook Page Karen Lynn Wheeler's UTube page I wanted you to see my best lilac planted just outside my quilting room so I can see and smell it in the spring (usually April). This is one of it's 2009 blooms, and wow! I've never seen it so happy. It is the "Blue Skies" Descanso lilac, that tolerates warmer weather. |
